BREAKING: Russia to build naval base in Sudan
Sudan has announced a final agreement with Russia to build a naval base on the Red Sea coast.
The 25-year agreement, with an option to extend for another 10 years, grants Russia the right to transport weapons, ammunition, and equipment through Port Sudan, other seaports, and Sudanese airports for the needs of its naval forces.
The new base will strengthen Russia’s influence in Africa and have strategic implications for the Middle East.
Russia is also involved in Sudan’s gold mining industry, with private military companies, including former Wagner Group fighters, securing operations since 2017, when Wagner began its military expansion into Sudan and the Central African Republic.
