Billionaire Elon Musk has warned that a Democratic sweep of the US House of Representatives, Senate and presidency in the 2028 elections could fundamentally reshape the country's political system, leading to the “end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word”.

In a post on X on Thursday (local time), the SpaceX and Tesla chief executive outlined three measures he believes Democrats could pursue if they gain control of all three institutions: granting statehood to Washington DC and Puerto Rico, legalising the status of undocumented immigrants and expanding the Supreme Court to secure an immediate majority.

“It would be game over for America,” Musk wrote, claiming these measures would turn the country into a “permanent one-party state”.

He urged voters to support Republican Senate candidates, arguing that securing 51 Republican seats in 2029 would be enough to prevent such an outcome. “Other reasons are irrelevant compared to this one,” he added.
