NBA ref Scott Foster told Reggie Miller he feels “the best he's felt in years” as he enters his 33rd season 🔥

Warriors assistant Kris Weems on Jonathan Kuminga:

"What I would tell him all the time is, 'You gotta do some of the things that you don't want to do to do the things that you want to do.' And I don’t think he really understood that. Steve [Kerr] was asking, like, run the floor, get to the corner, and everything. But JK wasn't absorbing how important playing off the ball was for us. [Wiggins] figured it out... He started to figure out the pin-ins, and how to attack, using [Stephen Curry] as the decoy. JK just was like, 'Just give me the ball, man.'"

Yaxel Lendeborg Learns How To Survive in the Bay | Rookie Dinner w/ Vets Aaron Gordon & Drew Gooden

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4HPAloBMmQ

Aaron Gordon’s advice for Yaxel Lendeborg:

“As far as like, your NBA journey bro, just stay with it. There’s some freaks in this league, you know what I mean? Like, real monsters in this league. This shit will humble you. Thought I was the #1 option in Orlando. Not really. You know what I mean? Got to Denver, took a couple of steps back, won a championship, improved my game. Now, you know, this league is going to humble you. Just always bring that shit, bro. What you learned from like, your mom’s, what you learned from the job. Bring that. Bring that. That’s why the Warriors picked you, bro.”

“Playing with generational talents like Steph Curry and Nikola Jokic makes the game hella easy, bro. Watch how he works and then just start pulling from it. Just start pulling, start pulling, start pulling. Add it to your game and then do what you can to get back to him while you’re on the court. The more you give out, the more that comes back around, bro… I say just guard, bro. Everybody’s always going to be able to use that.”

Mistah F.A.B. tells Yaxel and Aaron Gordon a story about Steph giving back to the Bay Area:

"I think if you do have any aspirations of showing up in some of these areas where they're underserved communities, just be authentic, not even come in with the cameras. Two summers ago, I rebuilt the neighborhood basketball court that I grew up playing on . . . Steph came out, played basketball with the kids, actually went 1's, like somebody came, got one on him, whole crowd went crazy. He's like 'Give me the ball, let me lock in.' That level of selflessness made people just, they're engulfed in love with him forever. For the rest of our lives, we'll remember Steph Curry came to this basketball court and if you're going to do something with these kids for these communities, just show up and do that. That alone will make people feel like you're one of us."

New: Asked Nuggets' Aaron Gordon what he saw from #Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg Monday night. He didn't mince words.

Gordon to @sfchronicle: "Yaxel has an opportunity to be special in this league, man. Just all the tools, his size, his strength ... he's ready. It's cool to see Steve Kerr empower him."

On the night when nobody could stop a 24-year-old in his fourth NBA game:

===

Draymond Green speaks on Yaxel Lendeborg’s upside and development:

“He’s definitely getting better each and every day. It’s extremely exciting because there’s so much he don’t know. He don’t know A LOT.

I told him last game, if at any point you feel like I’m saying too much to you, you can tell me “not right now I don’t want to hear it” or “I’m good”, because I’m going to try to give you everything I know.

And I find myself talking to him the entire game just telling him something different and he can apply it right away. Like you tell him something and he come down the next play and it happens, he applies it right away so that’s special in itself.“

Broadcast clearly catches Steve calling, 'Elbow Yax.'

Again, screen for Yax at the elbow, he creates on the ball, inverted ballscreen, weak side pinches in, Yax finds Melton in the corner.

Such an awesome all-around game for the rookie.

Steph Curry says Yaxel Lendeborg will develop right in front of everybody’s eyes:

“We’ve had rookies, young guys, who — they’re helping, but it doesn’t really show because they’re not getting minutes, or not getting opportunity because of the situation. But he’s going to develop right in front of everybody’s eyes.”

Damian Lillard was watching the NBA Draft in June when the #Warriors hit the clock.

"I turned over to my boy and I said, 'They about to pick Yaxel.'"

Yaxel talks about his journey to the NBA with Aaron Gordon and Drew Gooden 🥹

"For me, growing up, I was always like a baseball guy. My grandpa introduced me to that, so when he passed away, I kind of like lost it mentally because he was my father figure pretty much my whole life. I stopped playing sports and was going down a really bad, dark path. I get to high school, I was just goofing off. I don't really care about anything. I'm not playing no sports, I just had nothing. I went back to working at a warehouse job and then I got forced again by my mom to go play at a camp in New York. It was like a Dominican camp and I got recognized there. Got an offer from a JUCO in Arizona Western and that kind of started my basketball journey."

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HV2Xyqqa8AAiaIs?format=jpg&name=mehim

Lendeborg

r/NBA_Draft

Yaxel Lendeborg will be a top 10 player with a false ceiling this draft when we look back. He has an often discussed outlier older age, but he also has 2 additional positive outlier traits (growth trajectory relative to experience and wingspan) that make him not your typical older prospect.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NBA_Draft/comments/1t227nd/yaxel_lendeborg_will_be_a_top_10_player_with_a/

Growth Trajectory Relative to Experience: Yaxel started playing organized basketball at 17 years old as a senior in high school. He had tried out previously but was either cut or declared academically ineligible. After he graduated high school, he worked at a warehouse on the assembly line, so by the time he entered junior college, he had logged more hours on the assembly line than he had playing organized basketball. This is not the normal trajectory of any basketball player who attended an American high school that I’m aware of since Dennis Rodman 40 years ago, who worked as a janitor after high school.

This is very similar to Pascal Siakam, who did not start playing organized basketball until he was around 16. Just like Yaxel, Pascal came from a basketball family. His 3 older brothers all played D1 basketball, so Pascal got plenty of playground exposure but no real organized basketball exposure. As a result, once he took basketball seriously, his growth trajectory was way steeper than your average prospect. He continued that even when he got to the NBA, as he kept on adding skill after skill at an age where most prospects stall. Pascal was chosen as a 22 year old in the late first, which is exactly where Yaxel would have been chosen at the same age of 22 had he not come back due to NIL, which did not exist when Pascal played. Pascal, who went to a mid major himself in New Mexico State like Yaxel went to UAB, would have actually taken the same path today with that extra year in college like Yaxel did.

In the history of the draft, very few older prospects succeed. However, if you are an older prospect, the success rate is higher the worse you were as an 18 year old. This makes sense once you understand the importance of growth trajectory. Some of the best older prospects who succeeded include Dennis Rodman, Dikembe Mutombo, Mark Eaton, Derrick White, Jimmy Butler, Pascal Siakam, Damian Lillard, and others who started off as nobodies when they first entered college, just like Yaxel, who was averaging a single single while being around 55 percent from the FT line as a freshman in junior college. This is why teams also like Bennett Stirtz, another older prospect who started off in D2, with an incredible growth trajectory. Now, there have been some bad outcomes like Dalton Knecht and Chris Duarte, who also started off pretty low, but the point is, if you want some false ceiling prospect as an older player, Yaxel fits the profile. This is even more true today due to the fact that most younger players declare early so if you are an older player, you have to have some unique background story.

I did not clock that the defender that was drawn away from the rim and passed around by teenaged/unathletic/too skinny Keaton Wagler was Walker Kessler.

If Keaton can already manipulate a 7’2 $30m defensive center with a bump like this, he’s likely a star.
