Andoni Iraola:

"I ask every player about the position where they feel most comfortable, so I can understand them better. Then I watch them during training sessions, and we run some tests during the preparation period, and after that I make my decisions based on what I see."


Andoni Iraola:

“I always talk about energy. I want my team to be energetic. I want to be dynamic, to play in the opposition half as much as we can, sometimes on the ball, sometimes without the ball, and try to suffocate the opposition, especially at Anfield.

“We have to make Anfield a very uncomfortable place to come. This requires also the connection with the supporters. One of our biggest advantages is if we get this connection from the team to the supporters, from the supporters to the team, right? It’s very difficult then to stop us, especially at home, because I felt it from the other side.”


Andoni Iraola on Curtis Jones:

“I rate Curtis very highly. For me he is a great player. It’s very important he’s Scouse, that he’s from here. I also like the personality. I hope we can keep him, not only for this year, more time.”

"I cannot talk about players from other teams.

"It is clear we need a player there, I wouldn't say to replace Mo Salah, but we need one more winger. 

"There are other situations which are not so clear, we have very good players injured. [Hugo] Ekitike, [Conor] Bradley and Giovanni [Leoni], players we love. 

"We have to take decisions, sometimes it is hard. Sometimes there is a player we can sign to improve as a team, those decisions we are analysing.

"At other clubs, they present you with players you don't know. With Liverpool, when they present them, you already know them. 

"It is not easy, it has to be players who have shown a good level."


[🟢] NEW: “Several clubs in Spain are interested in signing Stefan Bajcetic, including Rayo Vallecano and Getafe. However, Iraola wants to keep him for the time being and assess him during pre-season. If he stays, he’ll sign a new contract with Liverpool. If not, he’ll look for a move elsewhere. His preference is to return to Spain.”

Liverpool really like Bradley Barcola. PSG would like to keep him, but they are realistic. He has only two years left on his contract. He’s not a regular starter, and he wants to be, so I suspect he would be open to a move if the right opportunity arose.

Liverpool have him high in their thinking, and I imagine Barcola himself would be attracted to clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal, and so on. The price would be very high. Of course, we’ve got to keep a close eye on Barcola and Liverpool, but at this moment I’m not sure it’s at an advanced stage.

France are still in the tournament. PSG, I’m told, don’t want to trouble him or take his focus away from the World Cup, so, like with many situations, I would imagine this one starts to develop, in whatever shape or form, if that means staying, going, Liverpool or elsewhere, post-tournament.

but they already spend loads on Anderson
and it also depends on Rodri not renewing


At Bournemouth, Richard Hughes hired Andoni Iraola before leaving. In May, he followed him to Liverpool. While Hughes was behind the approach, his assistant sporting director David Woodfine was heavily involved in the process. It remains to be seen whether Woodfine will end up replacing him.

While he is expected to remain at Liverpool in some capacity, so too is Julian Ward.

Despite claims Ward rather than Woodfine will replace Hughes, Ward is happy in his current position, which is heavily involved with the club’s academy.

Should Ward move into his old position or if Woodfine were to step up, either one would need replacing because FSG believe a sporting director cannot realistically oversee every aspect of a club’s football operation.

Liverpool do not plan to sell Cody Gakpo this summer.

Gakpo is among Tottenham’s list of targets while several other clubs are also keeping tabs.

Sources say he remains part of Liverpool’s plans.

#LFC are looking to add to their wide options, not reduce them.

Bradley Barcola is the dream target, but PSG are saying he’s not for sale as of today.
