Hydrogel super fuelling
Maurten are the Swedish sports nutrition company whose scientists have designed a new hydrogel for bypassing the gut while taking the sort of carbohydrate gels that even most serious recreational runners will recognise.The key difference with the hydrogel is that it bypasses the gut in digestion, helping athletes to fuel more while avoiding gastro issues. It has also meant that athletes can take on bicarbonate sodium – a household substance also known as baking soda and used in cakes – which was long known to enhance performance (by buffering hydrogen ions) but often interferes with the gut.

Sawe has also spent months practising his intake of carbohydrate fluids and it was found that, with exposure, the body actually improved at absorbing carbohydrates while on the move.

Maurten came up with their plan for London that began with carb-loaded drink mixes two days out from the race before bicarb just under three hours before the start - Maurten
“Anyone who’s seen Sabastian run knows he’s an extraordinary athlete – once-in-a-generation,” says Josh Rose, Maurten’s head of sports tech. “What is perhaps not as well-known is that he’s also one of the best fuellers the marathon has ever seen.”

Following numerous tests after 32 days embedded with the camp, Maurten, Sawe and Berardelli came up with their plan for London that began with carb-loaded drink mixes two days out before bicarb just under three hours before Sunday’s 9.30am start. There was then a carb gel five minutes before the race and then between 130ml and 160ml of their carb drink mix every 5km (around 14min 10sec for Sawe) as well as a caffeine gel at half distance. It all meant that he consumed around 230 grams of carbohydrates during the two hours of running. Between 50 and 100 grams was once thought to be the limit. It was certainly notable that, with his fuelling strategy, Sawe actually finished the race much faster than he started, with respective splits of 60min 29sec at halfway and then 59min 01sec for the extraordinary final 13.1 miles.

You can't compare the current era with the era ante-Covid.

The new generation od shoes can give a global advantage of one and half - two minutes : one during the competition (the new shoes can "save" the legs, example in Boston when till qo years ago frequently the winners had to go to the final party for the victory ceremony using a wheelchair, and now go to dance...), the other because now is possible to have more volume of training at high intensity, for the same reason : new shoes allow the athletes to recovery better and in shorter time:

But don't forget the effect of the gels of new generation. Till 2012, with marathon runners I personally used maltodextrines that had to prepare personally, with several individual attempts because the concentration was different among various athletes : some was not able to use because acid refluss, some other could instead use small quantity in every refreshment with different distribution. When I asked them their feeling, they told me "after about 15 min I feel like a new source of fuel". But 15 min means 5 km : now the same feeling comes 2 min after the assumption. This mean that athletes can feel the effect of refuelling after 600-800m, and taht's the reason because all the best today have very strong negative splits.

This means that the 1:59:30 is equivalent to 2:01:30 - 2:02 of 7 years ago, and of 2:03 of 15 years ago. This is the reality, the PERCEPTION of the impossible hits people not analyzing the real difference between now and the past.

近呢一兩年先變左做大碳水年代,Pogačar就係食到120g/hour先開始多人講,前排重有份research比較60,90,120g/hour

唔知係咪真係有分別。
我以前Hammer都唔夠平,食 iHerb gel.
以後馬拉松做時間嘅話唔搏,食貴 gel

環港島,港島徑果d,就應該分別不大。可以食乜都得。我覺得馬拉松做時間太 Chur, 好敏感。
