One by one, the coaches, in their white coaching pullover sweatshirts, were handed black boxes with a blood-orange stripe down the middle Tuesday night during the team’s ring-and-banner celebration to start the new season.

Inside those boxes, or so it seemed, were the 22-carat diamond championship rings designed and made by jeweler Jason of Beverly Hills. The first person to get a ring during the Knicks’ on-court ceremony, team president Leon Rose, opened his black box, revealing a shiny, sparkling ring, adorned with those diamonds and Knicks-blue sapphires, commemorating the team’s 2026 NBA championship.

But as the boxes were handed to the coaching staff, well, the men didn’t open them. Because their rings weren’t inside.

Seven league sources, all speaking on condition of anonymity so they could talk freely about a sensitive matter, said the Knicks assistant coaches did not get rings on banner night. Two of those sources told The Athletic that the assistants learned earlier Tuesday that they would not be getting their rings that evening, which came as no surprise because they had not yet been fitted for one and that boxes without their rings were a late addition to the ceremony.

Team sources described the assistants’ reactions to not getting rings ranging from genuine anger to annoyance.

Ring orders, designs and measurements can take time, and not every coaching staff for every defending champion gets its rings on ring night. For instance, the assistants and even some executives for the Oklahoma City Thunder did not get their rings on opening night last season. But assistant coaches for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers received rings on banner celebration night after their teams won in 2016 and 2020, respectively.

The Knicks assistants were told they would receive championship rings eventually, but many longtime employees at Madison Square Garden, including some who work in the Knicks’ business operations, will not receive rings at all, team sources told The Athletic. Typically, most employees for NBA teams receive rings, even if they are not as fancy and expensive as the ones the players receive.

Those Madison Square Garden employees got their hopes up at the end of September when the Knicks sent an email to a long list of employees, which gave recipients a first glimpse at their would-be championship rings. Atop the email, a copy of which The Athletic has obtained, was a graphic of two differently styled rings.

“Congratulations, your Employee Championship Ring is here,” the email read.

“(Employee name), this one is on the house. MSG is issuing a complimentary employee championship ring. The same jeweler, the same craftsmanship, personalized with your name. No cost to you.

“There are two designs to choose from: Championship Gold and Garden Classic. Reserve the one you want below.”

But the email was a fake-out, a phishing test Madison Square Garden sent to see if those employees would click, multiple team sources said.

Those who did click the link at the bottom of the message did not get to choose any jewelry; instead, they were forced to attend a mandatory cybersecurity class to help satisfy some of Dolan’s growing cybersecurity concerns, those team sources said.

就算MB轉頭又全年報廢, 隊波亦唔係TOP, 但都講唔上差, 包括兼容性亦唔差.
